SAFE SHIPS

Ships are safe in harbour, as disciples are safe huddled in the upper room. But ships are meant to be at sea and disciples are meant to be out spreading the Good News. Though tempted to hunker down behind familiar barriers - what we have always done and thought - if we avoid Christ’s message, least it impact too strongly on our lives, then we just haven’t got it!

Pentecost revisits the Holy Spirit descending upon the assembled men and women in Acts (Acts 2:1-11) and John’s, slightly different, gospel (John 20:19-23). We are called to burst from that upper room like those first disciples, immersing with and loving our brothers and sisters in the world.

“Many good men and women live on the epidermis of faith, nourished by a conventional Christianity. They find religious security in the belief and practices that are within their reach, but they do not live in joyful relationship with Jesus Christ. They have heard of him since they were children but they are not seduced or enamoured by what they know of him. Meeting Jesus can transform their lives.  …. It is (tempting) to live correctly within the church without worrying about the one thing Jesus sought; the kingdom of God and its justice………… We have to return to the roots, to the experience that set off the long chain reaction. It does no good to confess Jesus as God incarnate if we never try to find out what this man who revealed God to us was like, how he lived and acted.

We begin to encounter Jesus when we begin to trust God as he did, when we believe in love as he did, when we look at people as he did, when we confront life and death with hope as he did, when we pass on the contagion of the Good News as he did.” (Pagola, J. Jesus – An Historical Approximation pp 27/28).

“Faith in the future - I have come that they may have life and have it to the full."

This year’s theme for Catholic Education Week, “Faith in the future - I have come that they may have life and have it to the full,” is a combination of a quote from John’s Gospel and the theme for the bicentennial celebrations of Catholic education in Australia.

Catholic Education Week is an opportunity for all members of a school community to consider the call of the Gospel to build the Kingdom of God here and now.

I encourage everyone involved in Catholic education to contribute to one another’s growth and journey towards the fullness of life.

“During Catholic Education Week we are reminded that Jesus is the good shepherd who invites us to be the best people we can be. In all we do in Catholic schools, we strive to help each person experience the love of God, thus enabling them to live life fully,”

“This year’s theme serves as an invitation to focus on the unconditional love of God and how this love is demonstrated throughout our lives, in our academic and spiritual pursuits. We have been created to be fully human, fully alive and able to participate in the life and love of God.

“The theme also reflects the core purpose of Catholic education, which is to provide an education that enables our students to make a meaningful contribution to the world, and enable them to enter into a life-giving relationship with God.

“I hope that staff, students, families and Parishes enjoy this special time and that our schools continue to be harmonious places where children are able to reach their full potential.

“Catholic Education Week is a highlight of the year for the Diocese of Sale, as the broader Catholic education community comes together to celebrate our Catholic identity and unique mission,”

    Director of DOSCEL Ms. Kirkwood

    PRINCIPAL MESSAGE

Thank you to all the families that attended our assembly last week and Cross Country. It was great to see parents back on the school site and hope this can continue with this Friday's Foundation BBQ. (Please check important information for more information)

I would also like to annouce that we will return to running our P&F Meetings and School Board Meeting on school site starting next Term.

    Parents and Friends

The St Ita’s Parents and Friends Association (P&F) promote the interests of the school through a range of fund raising, social and other activities to enrich the school community.

We believe that involving parents and families within the school and its decision making adds a wide range of benefits to the school students, teachers and families.

    How you can be involved

The P&F plays a very important role in contributing to the running of the school fundraisers, helping out at school events, providing direction for Parents with issues or concerns.

All Parents are automatically members of the P&F.

We would like to encourage anyone who has any ideas, suggestions or feedback to come along to one of the meetings and help us build a stronger, closer community of parents, friend’s, teachers and students. Minutes are taken at these meetings and discussed at the school board by the P&F representative.

We know that all parents are busy with family committments and the availability to attend meetings might be tough. So feel free to get in contact with the school that could pass on your suggestions. The P&F will meet twice a term in the staff room with leadership -this is a great opportunity to ask questions or raise opinions about school activities, fundraising for St Ita’s, social events and ideas to enhance the school community.

    The School Board

The St It's Advisory Board works in an advisory capacity to the Principal, to oversee policy development, financial management, pastoral care of staff, parents and students, capital development and maintenance planning.

The Board operates according to the guidelines set down by the DIOCESE OF SALE CATHOLIC EDUCATION LTD (DOSCEL) School Advisory Committee Charter

Parents can nominate for a two year term once vacancies become available.

The School Board meets twice a term. Any questions regarding the school board can be directed to the principal.

    The board consists of:

    • The Parish Priest:
    • The Principal
    • School Representative (Deputy Principal)
    • Parish Representative - (Deputy Principal)
    • Chair Person
    • Deputy Chairperson
    • P&F Representative
    • 4 Elected Board Members

    2022 SIBLING ENROLMENTS NOW OPEN

This is our final reminder to all our current parents that Foundation enrolments for the 2022 school year are now open and we are now taking bookings for enrolment interviews and school tours.

If you require an interview and school tour with your child, please contact our school admin on 5623 7222 as soon as possible to book a time.

All parents will be required to complete a student questionnaire prior to the commencement of your interview (this takes a couple of minutes and you will receive it on arrival). You will also receive an enrolment pack with an enrolment form enclosed.

All sibling enrolments are given first preference of a place in the 2022 school year and therefore we strongly advise you to book your interview and return your application form promptly to guarantee enrolment for next year.

    WELCOME MRS. BRADLEY

We welcome Mrs. Beck Bradley into the St Ita’s Teaching and Learning Community. Mrs Bradley will begin working in school admin next Monday. Mr Bradley has a strong background in finance that will assist her in the new role and is very excited about starting work at our school. On behalf of all the parents, students and staff, we welcome Beck into our St Ita’s Teaching and Learning community.

    SCHOOL OVAL IN WINTER

As we approach Winter our bottom oval is an area that chops up very quickly and it’s an unsafe space to play. We also have a lot of mud being transferred into the classroom via. During winter we will be limiting the use of our oval to specific days for specific grades.

    pyjama_day.jpg

    PYJAMA DAY

This Friday 21st May all St Ita’s students have the opportunity to participate in our annual Wear Your PJ’s to school day. This is to support our Mini Vinnies food pantry stock up. Each child wearing their Pyjamas is asked to bring an item of NON perishable food on the day.

All St Ita’s Staff please feel free to put on the Jim Jams and enjoy the day knowing that we are helping a great cause.

    sausage_sizzle.jpg

     FRIDAY SAUSAGE SIZZLE

To celebrate getting parents back into our school community we have come up with a great little idea. Between now and the end of the year we have decided that on a specific non-assembly Friday we will hold a sausage sizzle for each level of children (Foundation - 6) and invite the parents to come on site to join us.

This Friday 21st of May we will be having a free sausage sizzle for all foundation students on the top yard starting at 12.00pm. The BBQ will be set up under the shelter and food will be served out of this area by our St Ita’s Mini Vinnies team. We will cook a few extra sausages each week but there will not be enough for parents or children to have 2 sausages, so we encourage parents to bring their own lunch along or pack a bit extra for their child if required.

All foundation parents are welcome to join us on the yard and all we ask is that you sign into St Ita's via the schools QR code which is located near the gate entrance and please adhere to correct social distancing guidelines.

This is a special opportunity to meet your child’s teacher, their friends, have a play with your child and meet the other parents.

    WHOLE SCHOOL ASSEMBLIES

At our next whole school assembly, I will be inviting parents of the "Student of the Week" Award and our "Sports Star" Award to attend so they can share in their child's success. Parents of these two awards will be notified prior to assembly. I will also be allowing parents whose children are presenting Assembly Prayer or Class News to attend our assembly. All Parents attending the assembly will be asked to sign in via a QR code before entry and observe correct social distancing rules outlined in our hall space.

    PHYSICAL EDUCATION NEWS

    Mr Carroll

The Grade 3 – 6 students have recently participated in a Judo Unit this term. Hunter Richardson and Tim waterman, coaches at the Dojo Factory in Drouin, took each class through a variety of skills and movements for four lessons. Students developed their understanding of the sport and the various competition rules, applying them when working with a partner. What a great opportunity this was and with the Olympics not too far away, I am sure the children will be keen to catch some of the action on TV. This program was conducted through funding from the Federal Government initiative, ‘Sporting Schools’. This week, all Foundation, Grade 1 and Grade 2 students will have the chance to undertake a Gymnastics Unit, made possible again by ‘Sporting Schools’.
