MESSAGES FROM THE PRINCIPAL
CATHOLIC EDUCATION WEEK
Last Friday, Catholic Education Week was launched across the Sale Diocese. Catholic Education Week is a great way to celebrate our Diocesan history and share in our Catholic journey that is spread across all parts of Gippsland from the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne to small country town of Orbost in the West.
The theme for this year’s Catholic Education Week, from the Gospel of Mark, is “Go out into the world and spread the news to all creation.”
During Catholic Education week our students will be working on activities that highlight our Teaching and Faith Journey
Last Friday, we had 2 staff invited to attend the Mass and Leadership dinner in Traralgon. Mrs. Greco and Mrs. Noonan were all set to go and represent St Ita’s at this event. Sadly, at the 11th hour, Mrs. Noonan developed COVID a few days prior. But in true St Ita’s style, Mrs Greco lead the charge on her own and was welcomed to sit on the Columba table with her Husband Mr. Greco. I believe it ended up being a very nice date night!
SCHOOL NEWSLETTER PRESENTED FORTNIGHTLY
Our school newsletter is our main means of communicating with parents in bulk and is full of important information for all parents and carers in our community. As we now have several platforms of communication (Schoolzine, Class DOJO and PAM) we have decided that the school newsletter will be produced and sent out fortnightly instead of weekly. We still hope parents will support us by sending any stories of interest or successes of their children as it’s a great way to showcase talents and skills that are happening outside of the school.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION SCHOOL CLOSURE
A reminder to all parents that our whole school Religious Education Planning day is on Friday 10th June. There will be no school for students on this day as all teachers will be in team planning.
2023 FOUNDATION SIBLING ENROLMENTS INTERVIEWS
We have now emailed all of our sibling enrolment families for Foundation 2023, and provided information regarding booking enrolment interviews via the School Interviews website. We ask all parents to please check emails and ensure they have received this information, and book a time for an interview.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact Beck or Helen at admin@stidrouin.catholic.edu.au or 5623 7222.
CHILDREN WALKING HOME VIA DROUIN REC RESERVE
We have noted that we have a lot of students who are now walking from school via the Drouin Rec Reserve gate at the end of the day.
In the interest of student safety, we will monitor all students who walk and ask them to assemble at the end of each day under the shelter before exiting as a group.
A staff member will walk the children around to the grassed area behind the signage and parked cars so they can exit through the gate behind the goals.
For parents and carers who are parking and waiting for their child to walk to their car, these children will also meet under the shelter and they will be walked to their cars with the walkers entering their car from behind.
Parents must notify their child's teacher with a class DOJO, written note or email to give permission for their child/ren to walk from this point.
We thank you for supporting us to have a child safe environment at St Ita’s.
SCHOOL CLOSURE - 11th JULY 2022
Just a reminder that the first day of Term 3, 11th July 2022 will be a school closure day, we will be undertaking student testing. We will be contacting families in the coming weeks to advise details for booking students testing via School Interviews.
COVID UPDATE
We are still getting cases of COVID and or Influenza at St Ita’s across all grades.
We were extremely short on teaching staff and we will continue to monitor the situation and let parents know if class splits are required.
It’s vitally important that we do our best to keep everyone safe at school and I want to thank parents for supporting us by keeping kids away from school whilst displaying symptoms.
If your child is displaying any symptoms at all, please keep them at home, RAT test them and only send them back to school when all symptoms have gone.
If children present at school with symptoms you will be contacted by admin and you will be required to collect your child.
We will continue to work together to get through this current outbreak and make sure we provide students and staff with the safest possible environment whilst at school.

PARISH NEWS
Be Still for a Moment
Pentecost Sunday, this conclusion of the great Easter season, is a wonderful opportunity to take a deep breath and set our course. Easter is about celebration and reflection on the depth and breadth of God’s love for us. Those filled with the Holy Spirit at Pentecost day (John 20:19-23) burst from the upper room (Acts 2:1-11) preaching confidently and fearlessly to all people. This is celebrated as the birth of the Church. In an astonishingly brief few years those Spirit filled disciples made Christianity a major player around the Mediterranean and beyond. In those same few years though was revealed an issue which has plagued us since. Those zealously fired up with passion for Jesus message, but forgetting to consult the Spirit were very soon proclaiming their own words rather than Jesus’.
Australian theologian Fr Frank Moloney alerts us that, “without the nourishing yet critical presence of the Holy Spirit, the ”Word” of Jesus is soon forgotten, and we begin to settle for our own “words”……. abandoning the never-ending task of learning from the Spirit …. settling for established ways …. no longer admitting the uncomfortable “memory” of all that Jesus has said to us”. (Moloney, F. This is the Gospel of the Lord p110)
In stillness, openness and humility we must contemplate, reflect, pray, chill, before any preaching or teaching or missioning and indeed in our daily lives. Allowing the Holy Spirit into our lives is often confronting: upsetting our prejudices and biases, our programs, plans and policies. Forgetting or ignoring the Holy Spirit though dooms our activities, whatever good intentions we might have. Pentecost is time to be still, to wait on the Lord, realising that Jesus approaches me as he did the disciples, wishing me peace, conferring his gift of the Holy Spirit and empowering us to pass these gifts freely to others.
