SAVING THE WORLD
“God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not be lost” and he came not to condemn but to save the world (John 3: 16-17). Christians find these perhaps the most reassuring passages in scripture. Despite our imperfect understanding, our sometimes faulty actions, our flickering belief, God is firmly on our side. We should build on that belief, perhaps praying, “Lord I believe. Help me overcome my un-belief.”
We have free will and could choose to reject the salvation offered; but why would we? But what of those who haven’t properly heard of the Good News of salvation? At first glance this gospel seems to exclude them.
Pope Francis assures us though that, “The Lord has redeemed all of us, all of us, with the Blood of Christ: all of us, not just Catholics. Everyone! Even the atheists. Everyone!” (Vatican 22 May 2013). God wills the salvation of all and so the offer is on the table for everyone.
Our Catechism tells us that “Those who, through no fault of their own, do not know the Gospel of Christ or his Church, but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart, and, moved by grace, try in their own actions to do his will as they know it through the dictates of their conscience—those too may achieve eternal salvation” (CCC847).
Pope Francis asks, “How do we behave with our brothers and sisters, especially with those who are not Christians? Are we impediments to their encounter with God? Do we hinder or facilitate their encounter with the Father?” The pope concludes, saying: “Today we ask for the grace to recognize and encourage the ever new ways in which the Risen One pours out His Spirit into the world and attracts hearts.”

Our Reconciliation Candidates will be celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Wednesday, 18th March at 7pm at St Ita’s Church, Drouin OR on Thursday, 19th March at 7pm at St Joseph’s Church Warragul. We ask all these families to please arrive 20mins before a 7pm start.
Please keep these children and their families in your prayers as they continue their faith journey together. We pray they grow in their knowledge and love for God and each other.

With extra celebrations compared to previous years and with restrictions brought about by the need for Covid safety, we would be glad for small volunteer roles in the following areas.
**To hand out palms on Palm Sunday
**To collect towels on Holy Thursday (after the washing of feet)
**To tend the fire at the Easter Vigil
**To hand out tapers at the Easter Vigil
**To operate the Power Point (especially at Warragul celebrations)

GETTING OUR SENSE OF COMMUNITY BACK INTO OUR SCHOOLS
One of the greatest challenges through Covid-19 has been the limited opportunity to create a sense of community in our school which has always been a key foundation of St Ita’s Catholic Identity.
Community is a nonnegotiable foundation for learning. We know that children, teachers, and families thrive best when they know they belong to a community where they feel welcome, safe, and free to share their big ideas and, when necessary, their concerns. Sure, building a community will look drastically different in this coming school year but we have to maintain our commitment to making this critical foundation a priority for every child and every family.
The business of education relies heavily on relationships and school culture. As a principal, I believe that relationships matter, and building an influential school culture is foundational. Finding ways to continue in this relational thread during Covid-19 is challenging. I jokingly tell people often, "we are making this up as we go along." As much as I joke about this, this unprecedented event has left school communities to seek out answers in these uncharted waters, and make the best decision possible for students.
As we gain greater confidence working with Covid-19 and getting back to a sense of normal, I’ll continually keep all in our community up to date about any changes that are happening within the school in relation to parents on site, class masses, car line pick up and drop off, school board meetings and parents and friends meetings.
I look forward to a time where we get back to normality and I want to thank everyone in our school community for their ongoing support to keep everyone safe during these challenging times.
PLEASE LEAVE SENSORY POPPERS AT HOME
One of the latest crazes to hit schools are the multi coloured, sensory poppers. Touted as a fantastic resource to support students who have struggled through remote learning or as a major reliever of anxiety in children.
Whilst there are some very good sensory toys available, that have a positive impact on students with specific needs such as ADHD, Autism or Anxiety. Sensory poppers are not one of them; like the widget spinner, tech decks, yoyo’s and Ushi’s, they are all a fad that children are drawn to and in a short period of time they become a must have item. The reality is that these sensory poppers are a disruption in the classrooms and they are a major distraction to children’s learning. Several teachers have already alerted me to classroom arguments, disagreements, and social issues arising from having them in the classroom.
Could I please ask parents to ensure children leave their sensory poppers at home and don’t bring them to school ? If your child has a diagnosed condition that requires them to use a sensory toy, please outline your child’s need in writing to the classroom teacher and we will help cater to their specific needs.
HOT CROSS BUN FUNDRAISING DRIVE
All orders placed will raise $2 per pack for the school to help fund a new shade sail for the lower playground.
FOUNDATION COMMENCE FULL TIME
Foundation students have now commenced full time classes, coming to school every day from this week on. Today was their first Wednesday class at school.
TONIGHT - MARIST-SION YEAR 7 - 2022 - INFORMATION EVENT
All current Grade 6 students and their parents are invited to attend the Year 7 Information evening for 2022 at Marist Sion College, Warragul as per details below TONIGHT - Wednesday 10th March.
- Enrolment information will be available at the event.
- Registration is required in the hall on arrival.
- Masks are mandatory. Social distancing will be observed.
SCHOOL FEES & FEE CONCESSION
Term 1 school fees are now due. BPAY details are available on your school fee statement. School fees are due by the 4th week of each term and must be paid in full by the end of the school year they are due, December 2021.
If any families would like to pay off their fees either weekly, fortnightly or monthly, please set up a direct debit schedule by completing a Direct Debit Form and returning to the school office at your earliest convenience. Please calculate the total fees payable by the number of weeks/payments required for your fees to be paid by December 2021. For any families that have recently received a Government means-tested health care concession card & have not already advised the school office, please forward a copy of your card to the office to check your eligibility, as a fee concession may apply. The card must be in the name of the parent/fee payer for a fee concession to apply with the student details listed on the card. A CSEF (Camp, Sport & Excursion Fund) form must also be completed.
If your current Health Care concession card has expired, or is due to expire and your card is re-issued or any details have changed, please send a copy of your new card details to the office as soon as possible for the concession to be checked and applied to your fees.

ART ROOM requires EMPTY TIN CANS this week
Gabby Hopgood, our Art teacher, requires EMPTY & CLEAN tin cans of any size for an Art project. eg soup, gravy, spaghetti cans.
Students can bring them in THIS WEEK and take them to the Art room or their classroom.
SENIOR ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
Grade 3-6 students will be participating in the Senior School Athletics Carnival this Friday, 12th March on the Drouin Recreation Reserve from 9am to approximately 1.30pm.
Grade 3-6 students are requested to wear their house colours or sports uniform on Friday with their runners. They must wear a hat, apply sunscreen and bring a drink bottle to the event.
Parents please advise your permission for your child to participate on Operoo today.
Foundation, Grade 1 & Grade 2 - WATER SAFETY PROGRAM
The Foundation, Grade 1 & Grade 2 students will paticipate in a water safety program at the Warragul Leisure Centre for 1 session each day next week: Monday 15th March to Friday 19th March. Students must wear their bathers, bring a towel and change of underwear every day next week. Foundation students must be at school by 9am. More details are available on Operoo.
Parents please advise your permission for your child to participate on Operoo today. Class Teachers will advise more details via Class Dojo.
Grades 3-6 will participate in a similar program on Monday 22nd March to Thursday 25th March. Details and permission forms are available now on Operoo. Class Teachers will advise of more details next week.
GRADE 5/6 CAMP
Our Grade 5 & Grade 6 students depart for Camp on Monday. Parents please advise your permission on Operoo today. A "what to pack for camp" list is also available on Operoo. Students are required to be at school by 8.50 am on Monday with their bags packed ready to go & they must bring their snack, lunch and water bottle for the first day. The camp is from Monday 15th March to Wednesday 17th March.
SCHOOLPIX SCHOOL PHOTO DAY
Student Schoolpix school photos will take place on Friday 30th April, the second week back of Term 2. Students will be required to wear their full winter uniform including jumpers and black school shoes. Please contact Beleza now if you require any winter uniform to ensure they have stock.

What’s involved?
Take home a small bag of books once a term to cover.
We provide quality covering and you can do it in the comfort of your home. (These are mostly soft cover books.)

Drouin Anglican Op Shop
We are looking for Volunteers for our Op Shop near Woolworths in Drouin, and our Warehouse in Roberts Crt Drouin.
We are asking for people who can commit at least 3 hours per week.
We are looking for retail assistants, sorters and packers, and also drivers for our van (no special licence required) and volunteers who would prepared to complete a test and tag course (which we would pay for).
